We must understand that our pets are not the one’s benefiting from the pet memorials but us which is more or less the same when we hold a memorial service for our loved ones who went away. It is a part of the grieving system, to recount how much their lives have meant to us, and to come to grips with the fact that we must now bid good-bye. Processing the grief takes many forms with us, and that is why funerals and memorials can be so different – and it is the same for pet memorials. The crucial thing is that we do something meaningful.
Pet memorials can be as basic as a backyard burial ceremony, or sprinkling the pet’s ashes around his favorite park. Moreover, pet cemeteries are great locations for pet owners to bury their pets and erect a grave stone to mark the burial site. Often pet memorials can be a kind of art, like a shadowbox that contains sentimental items like fur clippings or the pet’s favorite toys, a pet portrait, or even a plush reproduction. One artist helps owners memorialize their pets by creating special tribute paintings for the pet, including the cremated remains into the fine art. What type of memorial we choose, again, is more about what helps us treasure the memory of our pet, to recognize the way that pet touched our lives.
